Orissa, Assam split points in zonal u-16 match

Inclement weather forced host Orissa and Assam settle with one point each from their truncated East Zone Vijay Merchant Trophy u-16 cricket match, which ended in a draw here today. Rain and wet ground reduced the three-day match to one and half day during which a total of 127 overs could be bowled.

Put into bat, Orissa rode on Ashok Barik`s half-century to make 237 for nine before declaring their first innings. In reply, Assam were 156 for six at the close of the final day. Teams shared the two points as first innings of both the sides could not be completed.

Orissa now have five points from three matches they have played so far in the zonal league. Earlier they were also held by Tripura and Bengal. Orissa would play their last league match against Jharkhand at Cuttack from December 20 to 22.
